RAIDER’s Torch
Challenge
Mark Davis son of Al Davis former owner of Oakland Raiders asked us to make a torch that looked like the real thing but bigger, about 93ft. tall. “It has to be metal” he said. For his budget metal and the enormity of the structure, was not a feasible option. Our challenge was to created a free standing large scale permanent installation with the most unconventional shape and method.
Solution
We created using the worlds fourth LSAM (Large Scale Additive Manufacturing) machine. A monument made with 225 PC-CF blocks weighing 158 kg each. These blocks were then covered with 1148 machined aluminum panels each unique in its size. These panels were coated robotically with a custom ceramic finish to ensure endless life.
